TRAINING
Training courses can be tailor made to suit individual requirements. The following are examples of courses that have been successfully delivered.
AWARENESS RAISING FOR WHOLE SCHOOL/ ORGANISATION
These sessions range from two hours after school to whole day events. They typically consist of a short input of up to date information and statistical evidence followed by active sessions requiring participants to examine common issues arising for young people experiencing parental separation, divorce, new partners and siblings. The use of role play and drama in dealing with sensitive issues via metaphor would be examined. The implications for classroom management across the curriculum as well as specialist support will be considered. Participants will be actively engaged in practical work.
TRAINING TO DELIVER THE CHANGING FAMILIES PROJECT
This is in depth training with on going support that will equip teachers to be licensed to deliver the full 12 session course for either Primary or Secondary staff. In both cases it is suitable for teaching staff or Higher level teaching assistants. For delivery to Primary staff they would take a group directly or in Secondary they would either deliver to a group directly or train mentors. In the latter case they would need to precede training mentors with experience of direct delivery. In all cases it is desirable to work in pairs as it is intensive work with groups of youngsters who may have undergone stressful or traumatic situations. Before embarking on this training all staff should have received recent and relevant Child Protection/ Safeguarding training. The training will consist of a minimum of 3/4 days, initially two days intensive training followed by one day later after practical experience for Primary and two separate days for Secondary who wish to involve Mentor Training and delivery. The emphasis will be on practical application. All support materials will be provided.
KIDSKOPE TRAINING
This training is suitable for anybody who works with young people. It will focus upon more general issues than Changing Families and will help anybody who wishes to run a workshop looking at conflict in relationships. Topics arising might range from conflict with and between parents, bullying and aggressive personal relationships. Again it will be essentially practical in nature and will ensure that participants have understanding of boundaries and their role in running such workshops. Support materials will be provided. Participants should have attended basic Child Protection Training.
